Subject: Fannie Eardley
Jack, thought I would touch base and let you know that I did finally locate
my father's father. Of course he is long deceased, but now I can track him and
hopefully find more out. My father did grow up in Pittsburgh. Fannie did not
raise my father. A lady by the name of Ada Hamilton lived with, or was married
to Harry G. Walker, my grandfather. There was two Fannie Eardley's that lived
in Pittsburgh in 1920, however. I found my grandfather in the Pittsburgh City
Directory, or Polk directory, as well as the two Fannie Eardleys. They appeared
only in the 1920 directory, however, and were not listed with any spouses or
family members. They were both working. I did take note of them so that I can
try and find out something more. The fact that Harry lived in Pittsburgh the
entire year of 1920, that my father was born in Harlem, New York, and that Harry
was married to or living with a Ada Hamilton, (who was listed as my father's
mother on his social security application), seems to give more credence to my
hunch that Fannie was probably white and did not want her pregnancy known.
The LDS library only has the Polk directories through 1935, so I will probably
have to travel to Pittsburgh to inquire into the years following. We do not
have access to the 1930 census as of yet. the geneological library is hoping
to have it available about the end of the year.
On another note, I did find many Eardley's in Monongahela Pa around 1920, but
for some reason they all seemed to disappear after that. Are you aware of these
famillies?
Wish me luck,
April Hickman
