Nicholson Hi Jack How are you? Hope you
are keeping well. Sorry this is short notice,
but on behalf of Stoke-on-Trent, I’d like to invite you to the official
launch of a major exhibition of the Staffordshire Hoard – the largest
and most valuable Anglo-Saxon treasure ever found – at the National
Geographic Museum, Washington D.C. on Tuesday 1 November. The exhibition is the first
time the treasure, comprising intricately designed gold and silver
military artifacts such as sword pommels and helmet pieces that are of
unparalleled beauty, will be displayed in the US. The treasure is jointly
owned by Stoke-on-Trent City Council and Birmingham City Council, and
since its discovery in July 2009, has attracted 500,000 visitors to
displays in the UK. A delegation from
Stoke-on-Trent will be attending the launch on 1 November and it would
give us enormous pleasure if you would be our guest at the launch. During our stay, we will
also be looking at how tiles made in Stoke-on-Trent have been used in
some of the most important buildings in Washington, such as The Capitol
and the Smithsonian Institute. We will also be forging contacts with
major US businesses to tell them of our streamlined inward investment
opportunities to make it as easy as possible to invest in our city. I have attached an official
invite for the museum event. I’d be grateful if you could get back to
my colleague if you are able to attend. Contact details are below: Andrew Brunt | Press Officer Rachel Nicholson | Economic Development & European Officer ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Rachel
Nicholson Hi Jack I just picked up your voicemail - thanks for calling and sorry I missed you…. :( We would like to do a press release about the event in Washington and I would like to add a quote from you! Would it be okay to say………. "It is wonderful that a team from Stoke-on-Trent are visiting the United States to explain what the city has to offer to the US market. Our links with Stoke-on-Trent date back to when our city was formed more than 150 years ago. Our founding fathers are from the Potteries, and that is a link that is key to our heritage. We are known as the ceramics capital of the US, and Stoke-on-Trent is the world capital of ceramics - it is a wonderful connection to share, and one that we are keen to build on in the future." Does that sound ok to you? Thanks a lot! Rachel
